The phenomenal revival of Once On This Island re-contextualized the old story into a post Katrina tale of survival, myth, legacy, and community. Working on the program book, I wanted to do something worthy of the piece. I set out first, to recreate the fabrics pieces together throughout the show, the discord between them being central to the aesthetic world of the new production. The majority of the elements I wanted to be found objects, to speak to the spirit of reclamation and rebirth of the show. The fonts shift and change to emulate the varied voices and texture of the show. If you’re in New York, check this show out asap.
